The new Volkswagen T7 Multivan was unveiled with a new plug-in hybrid engine before it hits the market in late 2021. Volkswagen has presented the new T7 Multivan. This new people carrier comes with a revamped interior and a range of engines, including a new plug-in hybrid system.

This new van is based on the same substructure as the new Golf (albeit significantly stretched) and, although it is narrower and lower than the previous model, should offer just as much space in the interior.

VW Bulli fans are eagerly awaiting the new Volkswagen T7 Multivan model on the market in a few weeks.

The new VW Multivan has the same box-shaped silhouette as the previous Transporter but looks much more modern thanks to the new bumpers and continuous daytime running lights (like the new VW ID.3). As with the old model, you can get the new T7 Multivan with a range of two-tone paint schemes. The largest alloy wheels you can get are 19 inches tall.

The interior of the new VW T7 is equipped with individual seats instead of bench seats and has a flat floor that runs through the entire van so that everyone has the same footwell. This also means that VW was able to install slide rails for all rear seats, which you can use to customize the interior layout. With all the seats in place, you have access to 469 litres of trunk space. If you take out the seats (each one is 25% lighter than the old car), you have over 4,000 litres of space.

According to VW, the new T7 Multivan offers more headroom than the previous model when the optional sunroof is installed. It not only shares the base with the Volkswagen Golf but also receives its infotainment technology, including two 10-inch infotainment displays.

You can get the new Multivan with a range of gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines. The entry-level model is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 136 hp, but there is also a 2.0-litre petrol model that produces 204 hp. A 150 hp diesel model will also be available from 2022. All of these models are equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission as standard.

A plug-in hybrid engine is new for this Volkswagen T7 model. This uses a 150 hp 1.4-liter petrol engine together with an electric motor to generate a total of 218 hp. With the power of the 13 kWh battery alone, this model can travel around 50 kilometres. The hybrid model is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.

VW has already confirmed that an electric people carrier based on the ID-Buzz concept is on the way, so we don't expect a purely electric version of the new Multivan. Although it looks very similar to the old transporter, the new T7 is more aerodynamic, which contributes to lower fuel consumption and reduces noise in the cabin while driving.

Volkswagen has not yet revealed how much the new VW T7 Multivan will cost, but we estimate that the starting price could be 45,000 euros.
