Abarth has entered the world of zero-emission mobility. It does so with the new Abarth 500e, the company's first mass-produced electric vehicle. The Italian manufacturer has stated that the new Abarth 500e will not be the sole electric vehicle in its lineup. More electric models are planned.
The debut of the new Abarth 500e heralds the start of a new era for the well-known Italian manufacturer. Abarth has unveiled its first series-production electric vehicle to the public. A model that will play a key role in transitioning Abarth into a 100% electric brand. However, it needs to demonstrate that the strategic strategy is being implemented.
The new Abarth 500e is positioned as the first member of a new family of Abarth-branded electric vehicles. Completely new models will be added to the lineup. The Italian brand's top executive now warns of a critical flaw in the established roadmap.
Abarth will expand its model lineup with various electric vehicles that will follow the new Abarth 500e. But Olivier Francois, the CEO of Abarth, says that not all electric FIATs will have a scorpion-badged version in the future.
The new Fiat 500e electric city car served as the foundation for the first electric Abarth. The Abarth model noticeably differentiates from its electric FIAT counterpart, not only in appearance. The Abarth 500e electric sports car has an improved performance and fine-tuned tuning to provide agile handling and superior acceleration in urban settings.
When the Abarth 124 Spider exited the market through the back door, the Abarth lineup consisted solely of sporting variations of the Fiat 500. François warns that the range will be increased with new models over the following three years. A product assault will be carried out in line with FIAT's expansion process.
"All FIAT vehicles might have an Abarth variant, but not all will make sense. The team will evaluate each model. Abarth was usually tremendously successful when it was tied with the Fiat 500e in Europe. It isn't a rule, but people enjoy the little pocket rocket, city car racing, etc. Abarth is also a bit more expensive; thus, models that support such pricing power are required." François explained
Abarth's top executive has also confirmed that new versions of the 500e are in the works: "Everyone is already working to make this car even faster, sportier, and louder."
Fiat is developing ten new models. In the next five years, half of them will be marketed globally.
