The new version of the most award-winning SUV comes with a completely new architecture, technology, and driveline, including a plug-in hybrid. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has just been unveiled in the United States. The new edition is the fifth generation of the model since its birth in 1992. In the meantime, it has become the most award-winning SUV in the world. The new edition offers a range of news in all areas, which gives reason to believe that the Grand Cherokee has not received its final award yet. It is expected at dealers in North America by the end of 2021, and it will land in Europe in the second half of 2022.
The exterior design of the new 2022 Grand Cherokee is unique, as is the cabin and architecture in general - and then it comes with a new driveline in the form of the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid. Although there is a lot of news, it sticks to its core values such as high comfort, space, practicality, and not least good 4x4 properties in the terrain - not least thanks to the 4x4 systems Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive I as well as Quadra air suspension and Selec-Terrain.
The latter allows you to choose the right driving program based on surface and terrain. This changes the traction distribution between the wheels, steering, suspension, accelerator and brake response, gearshifts, traction control, and ABS. Selec-Terrain comes with five different settings - Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud / Sand. Thanks to the air suspension, the new Grand Cherokee has a ground clearance of up to 28.7 cm and can pass water with a depth of 61 cm.
The new architecture provides a car with improved performance, safety, and reliability, while weight, cabin noise, and vibration are reduced. At the same time, it has become more spacious, although the roofline has been lowered a bit.
The architecture has also made it possible to electrify the Grand Cherokee and turn it into a plug-in hybrid. The Grand Cherokee 4xe combines an electric motor and a 400-volt 400.2 kWh battery with a 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine fitted with 8-speed automatic transmission. In total, the Grand Cherokee 4xe provides 375 hp and a full 637 NM. The car battery is located under the floor and does not take up space in the cabin. All electrical parts are well protected and sealed, and the battery has its heating/cooling system, which ensures that the operating temperature is optimal regardless of the weather.
The charging socket is located at the front of the Grand Cherokee 4xe, so it is easy to park and charge at public charging stations. It comes with three different hybrid modes ( Hybrid, Electric, and e-Save ), and if you choose Electric, the petrol engine is disconnected. Instead, the electric motor pulls the car until the battery runs out of power or full torque is needed. The expected range of pure electricity is approximately 40 km.
The new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe also comes with regenerative braking, which regains energy for the battery during braking. In addition to the 4xe, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee is also produced with a V6 engine with 293 hp as well as with a 5.7 liter V8 with 357 hp.
On the outside, the new Grand Cherokee has been given a more modern and updated look. The new roof provides better aerodynamics without compromising on the spaciousness of the cabin, and the new windows let more light into the car and at the same time provide a better view. In addition, the iconic radiator grille with the seven stripes has become more comprehensive, and so has the wheelbase, making the new Grand Cherokee more maneuverable.
Inside, the cabin is brand new with a control screen of 10.1-inch. In addition, it is available with a 10.25-inch screen in front of the passenger seat, which can be used for both entertainment and to assist with navigation. It is also possible to get two more 10.25-inch screens for the rear seats. The seats can be adjusted in 16 different directions and are available with both heating and cooling and the option of a massage function.
Comfort while driving is further enhanced with the state-of-the-art infotainment system Uconnect 5, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless. In addition, there is the option of a wide range of solutions and features such as a digital rearview mirror, 10 '' head-up display in the windscreen in full color, wireless charging of smartphones, and McIntosh sound system with 19 speakers.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most technologically advanced ever. It comes standard with a range of safety systems, such as collision warning with active braking and pedestrian and cyclist recognition, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with dynamic steering, blind spot alarm, and parking camera, among many other things. There is the option of a night camera with pedestrian and animal recognition and a 360-degree camera with windshield wipers. Autonomous driving is also an option on level 2, where you still have your palms on the wheel and your eyes open and on the road.
The Grand Cherokee with an internal combustion engine and Grand Cherokee 4xe are produced in Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve equipment variants. Trailhawk is the edition with the strongest 4x4 performance, and 4xe Trailhawk has completed the legendary Rubicon Trail in the USA on pure electricity.
